About Us

Dhoraji Coop. Housing Society was established in 1950 with a view to acquiring land for rehabilitating the displaced persons who had migrated from Dhoraji to Pakistan. It was the aim of the Society to create a homogeneous colony of all the people of Dhoraji lower, middle, upper classes people so that it could be easier to look after the welfare of the people, to provide the deserving general facilities like housing at cost, free residential accommodation, educational as well a social facilities.

In achieving these aims and objects the Society was fortunate enough to have the leading philanthropists and social workers like :- For this purpose in KDA Scheme No. 7, about 41 acres of land was acquired in 1954: The first project undertaken was to build 72 quarters - each quarter measuring 120 sq. yards with 2 rooms, one kitchen, bath and WC and compound wall. These quarters were built for those persons who could not afford to have their own houses and were living in Lyari and Khadda areas in a miserable condition. With the completion of these 72 quarters some 100 families about 700 persons were rehabilitated. The quarters were provided to these families free of cost.

Dhoraji Housing and Relief Trust was created by the zeal, initiative and wonderful help of Mr. M. A. Rangoonwalla and the late Mr. Haji Habib Haji Mohd. Pakolawala who also embarked on building suitable apartments in the form of multistoreyed buildings and allotted the same to deserving persons almost at cost in 1958. Out of these some were allotted on easy instalments and some free of cost by private Trusts or individuals.

It is really praiseworthy that the Trust contributed large sums of money in providing the apartments to those persons who could not afford to pay the cost of such apartments. In this connection Late Mr. Haji Habib Haji Mohd. Pakolawala played a vital role in the construction of these apartments by providing necessary initial finance for the building of such apartments till the time of their actual allotments and recovery of the money. The Committee also notes with appreciation the valuable contribution by Late Mr. Haji Habib Haji Mohd. Pakolawala and Mr. M.A. Rangoonwala who at all times bore the cost of interest accrued on sums which were borrowed from the bank for the construction of these apartments. Their services in this behalf will always be remembered by all the residents of our Colony.
